Treatment sheet - Casey And Liam
History.
A band called behind human eyes wrote your Excuses, it is their third original song. Behind human eyes are an up and coming band from Hartlepool and are planning on making an EP soon, which will incorporate this song. “Your excuses” is about the singer going through family problems and deciding she’s had enough of the excuses. This song is effective as it could relate to many people and many different problems, it could link to family issues, break ups or general arguments.
The Video.
Our video is going to be a performance based video, without a narrative, seeing as we’re going to be a behind the scenes style video with the band recording the song in the studio and song. As we are using the bands original song, we will be taking shots of them in the studio, whilst recording the actual song that will be used.
We shall have full band shots, with everyone playing together, then as the recordings progress, we’ll have shots of each person in the band separately. The band will be wearing their normal day to day clothes instead of dressing up, as the video will be more of a video diary of the studio, so it will show the bands personality. Throughout our video, there will be homevideo clips that the band record as a sort of video blog, to show the relationship of the band.
We are going to be shooting at song gigs that behind human eyes have coming up, the locations of these are two local pubs, The royal and Pearl bar in hartlepool. We are shooting at a local charity that the band attend called red dreams, Red dreams help children up to the age of 19 in their musical career, they do this by offering a practice room once a week for 3 hours they also offer gigs and give bands/solo artists a chance to record songs, they have a building 'the unit' in south whitby street, we are shooting the studio shots as the band record there song at the unit, we will also get the 'home video' style shots at 'the unit' when they are having the weekly band practice.

Audience Research
Paramore - Misery Business
This shows that the music is more popular by females aged from 13-24 but also males from 13-17, showing this appeals more to teenagers more than anything else. It probably appeals more toward young females seeing as the lead singer is also a young adult female.
Blink 182 - I Miss You
This shows that males from 13-24 listening to Blink 182, whereas teenage girls also enjoy the music. This shows that the music appeals towards teenagers and young adults. It would appeal more towards young male adults because the band have been around a while, so the fan base would have grew up with them.
You Me At Six - Loverboy
Females from 13-24 are more likely to listening to You Me At Six. Whereas teenage males still listen to the band. The band is more appealing towards young females because the entire band is made up of attractive young males and the songs tend to be aimed towards females more.
There For Tomorrow - Pages
This shows that teenagers and young adult males are more likely to listen to There For Tomorrow, whilst teenage females also listen as well.
Arctic Monkeys - Brainstorm
The female audience for this video is particularly low with a range of 13-17, not many female adults may appeal to this genre of music. Arctic Monkeys have been around for about 10 years, the bands fan base has grew up with them, making the age range seem pretty high.
The audience for this video according to the statistics show that there is a bigger male audience with an age rang of 13-24. However, the female audience is lower with an age rang of 13-17. This may be because it is a hardcore band.Kings of leon - sex on fire
The male audience for this video has an age range of 25-44. The older generation like this video because of the classic rock sound produced by kings of leon. The female audience for the video is pretty low at an age range of 13-17.

9 frame
The first shot is a super slowmotion shot of somebody falling into water. This links in with the video in as it is raining a lot in the other shots, you can see that the director of the video has went for a water effect to make the video look dramatic and upbeat. I like it because you can see the high definition of the water as the person sinks.
The second shot shows the band members playing in the rain, this shot was taken from the side and doesn't include everybody. Low key lighting is used in this shot.
The third shot is effective as it shows the entire band, you can see rain coming down on everybody and water splashing from the drumkit every time it is struck.
The 4th & 7th shot are close ups of the singer on the chorus of the song, these i shots are good because you get to see the singer up close and get too see him lip sync to the song.
The 5th shot is a medium shot of the singer saving somebody from the water (the person who fell in). This shot goes well with the lyrics as it says "i should of known the tides were getting higher, we can still survive".
The 6th and 8th shot are of the drummer, the water effect is used heavily in these shots as the song breaks down for one of the final time. This effect is really good as it builds up a lot of suspense for the viewer.
The final shot was taken when the song actually broke down, a close up of somebody fire breathing.
Shot count
Shot count: 238
Medium close up of the singer
Close up of guitarists from crane shots
Long shots of the musicians playing from behind
Fast pace editing to the beata
Genre
Pop rock
It’s shown from the band playing, but mainly shots of the lead singer
Narrative
Audience
The audience would be young people, from about 30 under. As the song was made for the movie transformers, it would be heard more by the people who watch the movie than over who enjoy the band.
Representative
The lyrics represent how she’ll help the world and stop it from changing to an evil place. The video shows them in a abandoned hospital, which could be representative to the zombie films, where the character wakes up in the hospital, to find it abandoned and looks around to find answer.Monday, 12 September 2011
Lyrics to song - Casey
Your Excuses - Behind Human Eyes
Misery comes crawling but you scribbled out the truth
It’s my name your calling but I’m leaving without you
There’s no need to apologise
There’s no space for compromise
The bridge was build but now it’s burning
Burning down
I put all of my hope in you
But you just threw it away
I was always second best but you expected to come first
Who would’ve guessed that you were my curse?
I tried and tried to rectify
Something that I couldn’t find
How many time will this take
How many tries will you make?
I put all of my hope in you
But you just threw it away
I put all of my trust in you
But you just threw it away
Its such a shame that this you became
I thought we were the same
But now you’re something
No one else can change
I put all of my hope in you
But you just threw it away
I put all of my trust in you
But you just threw it away
I put all of my hope in you
But you just threw it away
I put all of my trust in you
Digipak Analysis 3
This is a simple cd cover but it is very eye-catching due to the bright colours. Also the contrast between the black logo and colourful background also makes it enticing, along with the fact that the logo is huge and dominates most of the cover. I my opinion every part of this CD cover is eye catching as even though the band name is smallish, the fancy font makes it interesting.
Digipak Analysis 2
The title of the album is chosen from a lyric in the second track "Final Episode (Let's Change the Channel)", where the relevant line within the chorus reads "Just stand up and scream, the tainted clock is counting down". I like the album name because it isn't an actual song and is different from other albums. The font used for the bands logo is effective as it uses the A for both words (asking alexandria). The microphone on the cover is the microphone which is used in the music videos. If you have seen the videos you would recognise this and it is pretty cool.
Digipak Analysis - Casey
The silhouettes on this cover are effective as we cant see the bands faces, this represents how monters are portrayed in the media, as in films etc. they tend to be shown as shadows. The light at the end of the tunnel could link to how the band are feeling as, they have recently lost two members so this song could be their comeback, the "light at the end of their tunnel' and show a new, fresh start. The font used for the band name 'Paramore" is the same font used on the rest of their albums but the album title 'monster' is in a different font. this could represent that they are the same band but with a few minor changes, this is sending the message to their audience that we will still like them as a three person band.
Advert Analysis 3
This advert is simple but effective as the whole advert sticks to the same theme of red and black, this is effective as it links to the album cover, also the picture of the band and words "kiss and tell" link to the album cover as its using splatters of colour like the cover. The title stands out as the font is larger than the rest of the writing this helps promote the band as if its seen from a distance the band name will stand out.

Advert Analysis 2
This advert isn't as eye-catching as the paramore on as its very dull and boring. But because its simple the writing stands out which could encourage people to buy it as its the first thing they see. The logo is in the centre of the advert this is effective as the eye is automatically drawn to the center of an advert. The banner of photographs underneath the logo give the poster a splash of colour, this is effective because it contrasts to the rest of the advert.
Video Analysis
Genre
HipHop
Illustrates lyrics as the video progesses.
Narrative
Narrated by the singer afroman as he drives around his estate in his ice-cream van. The video fits perfectly with the music as it cuts to the beat, an example of this is how he smokes his joint as he takes a puff of it to the beat. The video consists of various clips which are funny, but there are also many which show lip syncing. Everyone who he passes in his ice cream van start running after it, this shows how everybody wants some of his "ice cream" which is pretty much marijuana on a stick. His van has got an cone with an afro instead of the icecream. Throughout the video he explains how he didn't too good in life "because i got high", he doesn't seem to bothered about this because that is his life and he loves it. He sings about not doing too good in life but everybody in the video seem to be enjoying themselves. Audience
Targets people who are familiar with the soft drug marijuana and those whom enjoy hiphop. It is aimed at people around 18 years old and above because drugs are illegal therefore its not a song for a young audience. However, the younger generation do find this song good as it is such a catchy song. There is a censored version of this video for younger audiences to watch.
Representation
Afroman is the main person in the video, but it also includes jay and silent bob which are both great actors. The features of their past productions also promotes the use of marijuana, therefore relating to this video and making it much more cool as there is highly respected actors doing something which some may claim to be illegal (in some states).
Advert Analysis - Casey
This advert is effective as it is very busy and uses phases such as 'your favourite band' which will make the audience intrigued as if Paramore aren't their favourite band they may want to know why paramore are some peoples favourite band so they may buy the album. Also a very clever technique they have used in encorporating an available ringtone, this will generate extra money but also give people a taster of the album before buying it. the advert is mostly dominated by the image of Paramore which will catch peoples eyes.

Analysis of a music video
Genre: The genre is hard rock
Shown by the band playing throughout the music video
Shown by the band playing throughout the music video
Narrative
Both the lead singer of the band who sings the words, than a character who is the main focus of the video, narrates the video. Both are given around equal time shown on the video.
At the beginning of the video, you hear a song in the background which is also another Theory Of A Deadman song, so it ties in with the band.
The band are filmed in the trailer home of the character, which ties in with the representation. The band and character meet at the end, to show they’re friends with each other.
Audience
The target audience would be people that like hard rock as well as having a laugh. Mainly men between 15-30, as young people can kind of relate towards what is being shown.
The message is easily shown that people will be who they are if they can stick with it, even if other people don’t like it.
Representative
The song represents the ‘lowlifes’ of the community and how they live.
It uses the stereotypical low life, who doesn’t care much for their appearance, only care for themselves and take whatever they can to their advantage.
It uses the stereotypical low life, who doesn’t care much for their appearance, only care for themselves and take whatever they can to their advantage.
They use a trailer home in the song, showing that he is that typical lowlife. They use locations that fit in with the lyrics of the song, such as using a football pitch in the first verse. They also use a bowling ally and a convince store with tie in together so it all works together.
9 Frame Analysis
The first frame is an establishing shot of the characters home. It is shown through a stripped down car, shows the messy outside of the motorhome and you see the character walk out in his robe, showing he does not care for either himself or his surroundings.
The second frame shows the guitarist in the band using one of the beer bottles laying around the motorhome as a slider. This shows us that the character is a typical 'lowlife' and lays about drinking alcohol.
The 3rd frame shows the singer/guitarist playing in the back of the characters home. It has a blurred out shot of the rubbish such as the beer bottle infront but focuses on the singer.
The 4th frame shows the character taking the opportunity to take what isn't his, even if it is someones food. Showing how he disregards others if he gets the chance.
The 5th frame is of the singer in the home of the character, but it shows you the view from someone looking in from the outside. He raises his fit as he sings the words 'put up a fight', so it works together.
The 6th frame shows the character lying on the ground with a bottle of alcohol in his hand. This is shown to the lyircs "I'll be sleeping like a baby tonight"
The 7th frame shows the character being congratulated by other people, even though he this lowlife person, who no one should really care about, showing a juxtaposition.
The 8th shows the character coming to his cluttered home, with the look of joy on his face because he has been congratulated from the people, for basically being who he is.
The 9th frame shows the band and the character walking away as friends, while the motorhome explodes behind them all.

There for tomorrow - 9 frame analysis - Casey
The first shot is a meat shot of the lead singer this is typical of music video's as they as seen as the front man/women and who people take the most notice of. I like the close up of the guitar as its a very stereotypical shot for a rock music video. The third shot is effective as we get to see the full band in one shot and as they are bouncing/moshing it looks really effective. The fourth and fifth shots are very similar as they show the backing singers, although they use different angles and the third is a medium close up and the fourth is a close up. I like the sixth shot, it is a medium close up of the drummer, the reason i like this shot is because the drummer is very energetic. There are a lot of other shots similar to shot seven, this is relevant as the song is called 'Pages' and one of the lyrics is 'We change as we get older'. Shot eight is very effective as we get the see the vibrations of the symbol it is also quite an unpopular shot so we aren't a custom to seeing it. Again shot 9 is of the lead singer, i chose to use this shot again to show that the lead singer is shown a lot thought out the video.
Magazine article analysis - Casey
This Magazine article Is about a band called 'you me at six' in this article they are promoting their new album. They build each song up by describing them individually and aiming each song at a certain audience, by doing this it encourages more people to buy the album as it has a range of different genres in. They also talk about how they have asked "Oli Sykes' (from Bring me the horizon) and 'Winston McCall' (Parkway drive's lead vocals) By doing this it will entice fans from these two bands too.

Video Analysis - Casey
Avenged sevenfold – so far away
The transitions of this video are syncopated to the beat this helps the video flow better as they help visualise the sounds as well as hearing them. At 3:53 the photographs change on the drumbeat, this helps create a climax to the solo.
The singer of avenged sevenfold seems to be narrating the video as in my opinion the shots of the younger version of the band are memories, maybe this is his way of showing everyone what “the rev” (the drummer) was like and how much they miss him.
The narrative of this music video is about their drummer who has recently passed away. The video shows the bands life together ranging from a very young age up until the present day in which they are without him. The performance is very convincing as their emotions are real because they are grieving their friend and band member. Also the actors they hired to play them as children and teenagers resemble the band members so it makes the story line more believable.
The rock star image is presented in this as all of the band members are wearing mostly black and have many tattoos. Although the stereotype is slightly subverted, as rock stars are well known for not caring and being energetic, as this song is very meaningful to them it is better suited to be unenergetic and emotional.
There is a lyric in this son “place in time, always on my mind” at this moment we see the young Avenged Sevenfold sat out side of a shop, then it transitions to the band driving past the shop, this is slightly illustrative as we’re seeing the place that’s on his mind.
A lot of close up shots of the instuments are used, this is typical of music vieo of this genre as it helps show the rhythem of the song. Also during the flash backs the young bandmates are always positioned close to each others to show their realationships, whereas when the band members are on screen they are quite distant from one another, this may show that the tragedy of "the rev" dying has made them drift apart and hide their feelings. There is a close up shot of the rev caving his real name (Jimmy) into a table, although he doesnt manage to finish it as we only see him write "Jimm" this could represent that he didnt get to live his whole life, and there was still things left for him to do. Towards the end of the video some home videos are show, obviously these shots are handheld. The last shot on this video is a handheld home video clip of the band mates hugging the rev, i think this is a very touching last clip as it shows how much they loved him.
The editing is fast paced this could show that the bamd thought that the time the had with the rev went quick and he was lost suddenly. There as a lot of cross fades used, this may like to the fact that all their memorys of the rev are fading into each other and becoming overwheming.
The young band members are wearing typical clothing for teenages who like rock music, one is wearing an Iron Maiden top, which is very common in rock lovers, thoughout the duration of the young band members growing up they always stick to similar clothing alothough the clothes progessivly get darker, dark clothing is typical for rock bands. The actual band member as all wearing dark clothing, although they look smart. This could maybe hint about the funeral.
